Chemistry Outreach
Professor Jim Webb and I are the caretakers of the chemistry outreach presentation, "Is It Chemistry of Magic?" This chemistry road show is in its third decade. In addition to regional presentation activity, the road show is also a popular national ACS Speakers Service presentation. The picture in the sidebar of this page probably reflects two facts. First, this is a fun activity. Second, the current caretakers of the presentation are aging. Outreach is an important professional activity, and ACS views outreach as a professional responsibility to the public. As the current caretakers of this ISU outreach presentation age, they both welcome the participation of students who want to get involved in professional outreach. This type of activity is most suited to students who understand an aspect of the Game of Life: Professional outreach is hard work that returns only hearts and stars - not dollar signs. Oh yeah, it's also a lot of fun.
